Building Generational Wealth

What Families Should Be Discussing to Make that Process Personal and Meaningful:

Client Centered

Building generational wealth is about more than passing down assets—it is about passing down clarity, confidence, and good financial habits that help each generation grow.

Too often, families wait until a major life event to talk about what happens next. Starting those conversations today can help the next generation make informed decisions and better understand the purpose behind the family’s wealth – both in the monetary value and in legacy.

Here are a few topics every family should consider discussing:

  • Family Legacy: What does “wealth” mean to us, and what do we want it to accomplish?
  • Financial education: Are younger family members learning how to budget, invest, manage debt, and give thoughtfully?
  • Estate planning: Are wills, trusts, beneficiaries, and key documents current and understood?
  • Roles and expectations: Who should be involved in future financial decisions, and how will responsibilities be communicated?
  • Charitable Giving: Which people, causes, or communities does the family want to support over time?

These conversations do not need to reveal every account balance or detail. The goal is to create shared understanding, prepare future decision-makers, and reduce uncertainty before it becomes urgent.

Generational wealth is the strongest when financial resources are paired with communication, education, and intention.

What is one financial lesson or family value you hope to pass on to the next generation?
